West Ham vs Charlton live: Carabao Cup updates as Sebastien Haller scores twice

The Hammers are back in action in east London against the League One side

Good evening and welcome along to live coverage of West Ham’s Carabao Cup second round tie versus Charlton Athletic at London Stadium.

The Hammers are back in action just three days after they made their first Premier League outing of the season on Saturday. That didn’t end very well as they were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United in east London.

The Addicks also kicked off their League One campaign at the weekend, beating Crewe Alexandra 2-0 at Gresty Road having followed up their Carabao Cup first round victory the week before.

Lee Bowyer’s side got to this stage by beating Swindon Town 3-1 in the first round while this is the Hammers’ first involvement in the competition for this season.

When David Moyes was first in charge in east London he steered the Hammers to the quarter finals of the competition before they were beaten by Arsenal in north London and how the manager and fans would love a decent cup run this year.

Moyes is expected to make some changes to the side that was beaten in the Premier League at the weekend, giving some youngsters and some fringe players the chance to show what they can do and try to force their way into the Premier League team.

Youngsters Xande Silva, Mipo Odubeko, Jamal Baptiste, Ajibola Alese and Conor Coventry were not included in the under-23’s PL2 opener against Chelsea on Monday and could be in line for a squad place in E20 on Tuesday.

We will have all the build up, match action and post-match reaction live from London Stadium throughout the evening, with kick off set for 7.30pm in Stratford this evening.
