Transfer Deadline Day 2020 as it happened - news and rumours as summer window closes

Manchester United worked frantically to get all their business done on deadline day. They signed Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri, and also sprung a surprise by arranging the January transfer of Amad Traore from Atalanta. One misstep perhaps was their inability to persuade Ousmane Dembele to jump ship from Barcelona, which may have cost Memphis Depay his desired move from Lyon.

Arsenal secured the signature of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid as they paid up his release clause with only hours remaining of the window. Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City did nothing of note. However, attention will now turn to the Championship and whether players like Josh King, Todd Cantwell and Ismaila Sarr will make the return journey to the top flight.
Perhaps we will do this again in a couple of weeks when the next wave of desperation sets in amongst clubs struggling to make a good start to the season. If not, we will see you in January for more of the same. Thanks for reading today.
Just Loftus-Cheek to go...
Two deals are known about that could still be announced - Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tosin Adarabioyo to Fulham.
This is probably the last of the big transfers tonight, but let's run it until midnight, just in case.
We can do this for another week and a half.
Joe Rodon, Josh King and Ismaila Sarr could all still be on the move.
A bargain.
Todibo to Benfica announced...
But those funds arrive too late to sign Garcia from Manchester City.
They've made a mess on this one, so let's hope Lionel Messi is understanding.

Wesley Hoedt, who has looked intermittently impressive for Southampton, returns to former club Lazio on loan.
It appears that Manchester United are reluctant to strike a deal with Everton for the 33-year-old.
Barcelona are in a race against time to shift some figures about.
Serie A champions Juventus signed Federico Chiesa, the outstanding player of smaller rivals Fiorentina, in a €50m deal on Monday, hours before the end of the transfer window.
The 22-year-old was raised at Fiorentina and is the son of former player Enrico Chiesa who was in the team which won Fiorentina's last major trophy, the Coppa Italia in 2001.
Chiesa made his professional debut for Fiorentina in 2016 and went on to make 153 appearances, scoring 34 goals, although he has been the subject of transfer speculation for at least two years. He has 19 caps and one goal for Italy.
Juventus said that the deal consisted of a two-season loan, worth €10m, followed by an obligation to buy for a further €40m, plus up to €10m more based on "further performance objectives."
Although he was a key player at Fiorentina, Chiesa will have to fight for his place at Juventus who already boast Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Alvaro Morata and Federico Bernardeschi, another former Fiorentina player.
Earlier on Monday, Juventus, chasing a tenth successive Serie A title, loaned Brazilian winger Douglas Costa to Bayern Munich and full back Mattia De Sciglio to Olympique Lyonnais.
Juve's major signing for this season was Brazilian midfielder Arthur from Barcelona. They have also signed Morata from Atletico Madrid and U.S. midfielder Weston McKennie from Schalke 04.

Tottenham's attention appears to have turned to Swansea centre back Joe Rodon instead.
Tiomoue Bakayoko has joined Serie A club Napoli from Chelsea on a season-long loan.
Not long at all to try and get this deal done. Roma have been reportedly trying to bring Smalling back to the Rome club permanently for the entirety of this transfer window.
It's a big ask with less than six hours to go. But never say never...
It's all over in Germany. Their deadline was 5pm BST today. The window closes at 11pm for Premier League clubs - although deals with EFL clubs will be permitted until October 16
A reminder that Serie A shuts at 7pm with Ligue 1 and La Liga at 11pm.
Justin Kluivert has arrived from Roma to RB Leipzig on loan just in time...
Portuguese wing-back Ruben Vinagre will join Olympiacos on loan for a season, but there is also an option to buy at the end of that deal.
