Can Thiago Alcantara play against Chelsea on Sunday? Was new Liverpool signing registered in time to make his
Liverpool officially announced the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich on Friday afternoon.
And Reds fans will be happy to hear that the club DID complete the paperwork in time for him to play against Chelsea on Sunday.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has not revealed for definite whether Thiago will make his debut at Stamford Bridge.
However, he did confirm that if the Spaniard isn’t involved it won’t be because he is ineligible
“He will train [on Friday],” Klopp said when asked the question by Liverpool’s club website.
“You meant the match… we will see. I didn’t make the squad now for Sunday.
“We will see what we can do.
“I didn’t meet him now, we had only phone calls and exchanged messages.
“So, let’s have a look how he feels…
“If he looks alright, we will find the right place for him.”
Thiago has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Liverpool and leaves Bayern after winning seven successive Bundesliga titles in his seven seasons in Germany.
Liverpool have paid just £20million up front for Thiago with add-ons possibly increasing the fee by a further £5m.
Upon signing, Thiago said: “When the years are passing, you are trying to win as much as you can – and when you win, you want to win more. I think this club describes what I am as well; I want to achieve all of the goals, win as many trophies as possible.
“It also [has] this kind of family [feeling] that I need because we [like to] have a very close relationship with the club and I think I will feel this, I will have this feeling, with this club as well.”
