Bernardo Silva gives verdict on Kylian Mbappe's performance in PSG vs Man City
Bernardo Silva said Kylian Mbappe was far more difficult to defend against than Manchester City made it look in their win over Paris Saint-Germain.
City recorded an impressive win in Paris, helped by their ability to keep Mbappe quiet throughout as the French striker was prevented from having a single shot on goal in a Champions League game for the first time.
In fact, so good was Ruben Dias' man-marking job on Mbappe, even City goalkeeper Ederson had more touches than the PSG frontman.
However, Bernardo says playing against his former Monaco teammate is an extremely difficult task, as the City man declared his hope that Mbappe is kept quiet again in next week's second leg.
He said: “It's tough to play against him. I have played with him and against him. It's much better to play with him on your side. He is a great player.Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles
"I wish him all the best, except in this round against us! I'm very happy to see he is having a great career and he is, without a doubt, one of the best players in the world.”
On that second leg, Bernardo urged his side to keep up their intensity shown in the second half of the win in Paris.
“We are going to face the second leg the same way we faced this first leg," he said.
"If we play 90 minutes to defend a result, we are going to be knocked out. We need to try to keep the ball, attack and score goals. We are facing a great team and if we give them time and space, they are a very dangerous side. We are going to face it with a lot of confidence but knowing that we are playing against a great team.”
Similarly, teammate Rodri praised PSG for their performance as he pointed to the blueprint City showed in the second half as the way to approach the second leg.Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles
He explained: “They are PSG, current runners-up of the competition. A great team with great players, in my opinion. They are very difficult to contain for the way they play and the quality they have up front.
"They are good with the ball, they are good in the counter-attacks, they are aggressive. It's not easy to come here and get the result we got. The key factor has been our mental strength and to believe in our style of playing. Until we took the pressure out of ourselves we had not started playing our game and I think the second half is the way to go
“We are going to face [the second leg] with the ambition to win again. We can't go and speculate with the result. It's going to be a difficult game, like today. The second half today is the way to go ahead of the second leg."Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles
