Luis Suarez Wants Atletico Madrid To Sign Midfielder

The former Barcelona striker has signed for Atleti and has endorsed one of their transfer targets and wants to play alongside him.

Luis Suarez hasn't been an Atletico Madrid player long but he's already recommended his new team buy a new player to go along with his signing.

He's already made himself feel comfortable with Diego Simeone's side and is hoping the manager will follow his 'endorsement' of another transfer.

According to AS, Suarez has asked the club to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, with his fellow countryman already on Atletico's wanted list.

The Spanish side want to sign the 24-year-old on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season, but the Gunners want to sell the player.

Mikel Arteta's side are interested in replacing the midfielder, with both Atleti's own Thomas Partey and Lyon's Houssem Aouar on their wanted list.

The Gunners are holding out for a reported £21.8 million for Torreira, with Fiorentina also interested in signing the Uruguayan.

It would not be the first time that a club has signed Torreira after being recommended by his fellow countryman Suarez.

The former Liverpool striker had a say in the midfielder's move to the Emirates Stadium. In 2018 the 33-year-old spoke to Raul Sanllehi, who was the Gunners' head of football at the time, about the possibility of signing the midfielder.

"Luis Suarez was very helpful," Torriera said not long after he moved to North London.

"He spoke to Raul, who brought many players to Barcelona. I was really grateful to Luis and only a short time ago I sent him a message of thanks."

Torreira, who joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018, is yet to make an appearance for the team this season and was left out of the squad for the Carabao Cup game against Leicester City on Wednesday.

Speaking after the game Arteta explained why the midfielder missed out, saying, "I am not making decisions because players might leave or stay, it is just for the players we see every day who are in the best possible condition to compete and get us closer to winning football matches."

Asked if the player was going to leave, the manager replied, "Again, I cannot discuss any internal things."
