Whether you want to take a nice warm vacation in February, or you’re just curious, this month is great for traveling to warm states. While other states are experiencing snowstorms and cold weather, these states are under the sun. February is technically a winter month, although some states reach high and warm temperatures. It’s rare for the states on this list to drop below freezing. Instead, they are the seven warmest states in February. Keep reading to learn more about each.
Hawaii

Hawaii is a tropical island made up of smaller islands. It’s also one of the warmest states in the U.S. Hawaii has a population of over 1.4 million people. In winter, the average daytime temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temperature in Hawaii during February is 79 degrees Fahrenheit. The state can also reach lows of around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Hawaii is filled with animals, both on land and in the sea. Some of the most spectacular animals living in Hawaii include the nene (Hawaiian goose), monk seal, sea turtle, sharks, manta rays, and humpback whales.

Florida is sometimes called the Sunshine State. Over 104 million visitors travel to Florida every year from all over the world. They visit Florida’s many white sandy beaches and amusement parks. Florida’s average daily temperature varies. However, the state often sees highs in the 90s and low 100s. The average temperature in Florida during February is 75 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it can drop to lows of 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Florida is a warm state. The highest recorded temperature in Florida ever was 108 degrees Fahrenheit on February 13, 1899. Despite how warm Florida is, hundreds of animal species call it home. Common Florida native animals are alligators, bobcats, Florida panthers, and river otters.

Texas has over 29 million residents. It’s a growing state with thousands of new residents each year. Texas is also a hot state with unique environments. For example, there are deserts in Texas, natural rivers and springs, and luscious green mountains. Texas is massive, so it shouldn’t surprise you to know how high temperatures can reach! The average daily temperature in Texas is between 36 and 96 degrees Fahrenheit. In February, this state sees highs up to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. While this might be too cold to take a dip and swim, you can enjoy a lovely hike. Texas has a diverse environment, which also means they are home to many animals like cougars, black bears, and wolves.
New Mexico

New Mexico is home to 2 million residents. It is the fifth largest state in the U.S. New Mexico’s climate is hot and dry. A lot of New Mexico is desert land, specifically the Chihuahuan Desert. New Mexico has an average temperature in the mid-50s. The average temperature in February is 60 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the state experiences extreme highs, sometimes going up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest temperature ever recorded in New Mexico is 116 degrees Fahrenheit and was recorded twice. The state has many native and unique animal species including elk, rattlesnakes, bullsnakes, and bighorn sheep.

Arizona reaches high temperatures. It’s a very hot state with a dry climate. Winter visitors often visit Arizona when escaping from the cold in the North. Arizona has about 7.2 million residents. These residents experience average temperatures between 69 to 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Rarely does Arizona drop below freezing. While it’s a warm state during February, the warmest month is July with average highs of 106 degrees Fahrenheit in Pheonix. The coolest season occurs between December to February and typically stays as low as 46 degrees Fahrenheit. These warm temperatures are perfect for Arizona bark scorpions, milk snakes, and rattlesnakes.

Technically, February is not considered a warm month in Louisiana; however, compared to the other states in the country, it’s a warm time of the year. Louisiana has average temperatures in the low to mid-60s. It’s very unlikely that Louisiana residents and visitors will see snow flurries during February. Although the mid-60s isn’t the warmest month in the state, Louisiana can reach high temperatures up to 114 degrees Fahrenheit. Common animals that can withstand these temperatures in Louisiana are banded water snakes, northern mockingbirds, and river rats (nutrias).
Nevada

Nevada has a population of over 3.14 million. These residents withstand both high and low temperatures. In February, the highest temperature in Nevada is 64 degrees Fahrenheit. However, sometimes the temperature rises to 70 degrees Fahrenheit in February. Lows are in the low-to-mid 40s. The highest temperature recorded in Nevada was 125 degrees Fahrenheit on July 29, 1994. Common animals in Nevada are mountain lions, foxes, and rabbits.
