Manchester United ‘hold talks’ with Porto left-back Alex Telles, who got TWELVE assists last season
Manchester United have identified a new target after missing out on Sergio Reguilon – Porto left-back Alex Telles.
They were linked with the Real Madrid star but Reguilon has decided to join Tottenham, who are set to announce his signing imminently.
The Red Devils are keen to give competition to the likes of Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams and reports emerged on Friday night that a five-year contract was in place for Telles.
But the Daily Mail claims club sources maintain that those reports are premature and Telles is a player of interest to United at this stage.
It’s understood the 27-year-old Brazilian, who scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions last season, would set United back £17million.
Bar the signing of midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax, it’s been a quiet transfer window for the 13-time Premier League winners.
They’ve been linked to plenty of players, including Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic as well as Watford’s £40m-rated star Ismaila Sarr.
There are also numerous reports relating to United’s long-standing interest in Jadon Sancho, however, Borussia Dortmund have been firm in their stance that he’s staying put this summer.
Solskjaer was asked about potential signings during his pre-match press-conference ahead of their season opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday – a match you can listen to LIVE on talkSPORT, kick-off 5:30pm.
He said: “We understand to get further we need to develop what we have and strengthen the team, but let’s wait and see if we manage to bring anyone in.
“I’ve been in dialogue with the club. We’re always discussing. We want to take a step forward and we can go into the new season with confidence, but we’re looking to give the group a boost and we’re working on it.”
ESPN reported that United’s top brass have become frustrated with growing concerns on social media about the club’s lack of transfer activity, with calls for new signings believed to be causing negativity.
