Neymar leaving Saudis AlHilal heading home to his boyhood club
Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has said Neymar is headed back to Santos FC.

Brazilian star Neymar is set to return to his home country after a fruitless stint with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfer news, said Neymar is close to returning to the famous Santos FC, where he emerged as a global star.

"Formal steps to follow next week for the final formula of the deal from Al Hilal and contracts to be checked. Neymar already said yes to the move," Romano posted. Neymar has only played seven matches for Al-Hilal since his famous switch to the Saudi Pro League side in 2013 for 90 million Euros.

The Brazilian endured a difficult stay in Saudi Arabia after being sidelined for long periods with injuries. With Neymar's contract running out in June, a return to his boyhood club could be the desired outcome, not just for the player, but for his global fanbase.

Several iconic footballers have played for Santos, including Robinho, Dunga and Elano. But the most popular one is Pele. The legendary Brazilian made more than 1,100 appearances for Santos.

Neymar's association with Santos began in 2003 when he was inducted into their youth academy. He made his professional debut in 2009 and went on to become a superstar. Neymar played for Santos until 2013 when he moved to Spanish supergiants Barcelona.

In Spain, Neymar became a household name as he forged a formidable partnership with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez before leaving for French side Paris St Germain in 2017 for a record-breaking 222 million Euros. He played six seasons at PSG, scoring 118 goals, before Saudi came calling. Neymar recently said the World Cup in 2026 would be his last. Neymar is Brazil's all-time top scorer with 79 goals.
